It must hurt for results to be good!

On any complex Enterprise Application project, the team assigned will make or break its success.  As the final client, you may contract with one or more systems integrators and/or other consultants, but the most critical piece of the team puzzle is “your own people”.  You must search and find the most perfectly suited skills within your organization.  Frequently, you will argue that you can’t reassign the best resources from their current day-to-day responsibilities.  Even if it hurts, that is exactly what you must do:  you can back-fill and reassign operational tasks within your departments, but unless you invest in the best team for your future platform, the results won’t be worth the money spent.
